Grinding Guide
For World of Warcraft
Why grind?
Grinding is the most efficient way to level your character.
From level one through twenty quests will be a major part of the experience you gain to level your character.
From level twenty and up quests experience will make less and less of a difference and most of the experience you gain will be from killing mobs.
The most efficient way to kill monsters for experience is to grind.
How to grind
- Hunt things that you can kill efficiently. Often these are monsters that are one to two levels lower that you or that you have some special ability to kill. For examples Paladins have anti-undead spells.
- Look at your experience per hour not your experience per kill. (There are mods that will show you this.)
- A good grinding spot has more mobs that you can kill. But the mobs are spread out enough that you can kill them without adds that kill you.
- A grinding spot that has wandering death is only usable if you can avoid the wandering death almost all of the time and the graveyard is close. (Wandering death is a monster or group of monsters that wander the area and have a very high chance of killing you if they bump into you.)
- You have no obligation to run low level characters through instances that they are not high enough level to to do on their own. If its something you want to do, great but your character will not level while you do it.
Quests to complete while grinding
- Focus on quests that only require you to kill a certain number of monsters.
- Also take quests that have you loot a certain number of items from monsters.
- Only take quests if the monster you have to kill is good to grind on.
- Avoid Elite quests when your trying to grind.
- Think of quests only as a little extra experience.
- Wait to turn in the quests until you already have to go there. I.e. don’t make a extra run back just to turn in the quest.
What not to do while grinding
- Don’t die
- Don’t die far from the graveyard
- Don’t hunt things that you have trouble killing (see above).
- Don’t hunt things that are so low level compared to you that some of them don’t give experience at all.
- Don’t fight with ten other characters over the 4 monsters that are spawning in some camp.
- Don’t grind on rare monsters that are hard to find.
- Don’t confuse grinding for experience and working on your trade skills. Work on your skills if you want but remember that if your not killing monsters your not gaining experience.
- Last but not least: Don’t burn out! its a game not a job. If you get tired of grinding go do some quests or turn off the computer and go sailing.
